Eileen Shaevel established Dispute Resolution Alternatives in 2001 after retiring from the Probate and Family Court bench. While serving as a judge for 11 years, she observed first-hand how emotionally difficult and costly litigation can be for the participants and understands the advantages of using alternative methods for resolving cases outside of court. The dispute resolution services she provides include mediation, arbitration, and case evaluation, any of which can generally resolve disputes more quickly, conclusively, privately, and at less cost than litigation in court. The areas in which she offers her services include:

• Separation and Divorce – all financial and parenting issues
• Post-divorce modifications and enforcement of judgments
• Dissolution of same sex couple relationships or marriages
• Disputes between never-married parents
• Prenuptial agreements
• Probate matters - will contests, contested accounts, and fee disputes
• Equity complaints
• Petitions for Partition
• Guardianship
• Legal malpractice in domestic relations and probate matters

After the successful conclusion of the mediation process, the parties can elect to have her draft their Settlement Agreement. They then review the Agreement with their attorneys prior to signing. Alternatively, she will prepare a Memorandum outlining the agreements reached in mediation for use by the attorneys if they will be drafting the Agreement.

Couples interested in learning more about the mediation process as a way of addressing their unresolved issues are invited to schedule a complimentary half-hour to meet Eileen Shaevel. At that meeting she will describe the mediation process in more detail, and the couple will have an opportunity to have all of their questions about the process answered.
